The Caretaker's Concern for 5/17/2010

TCC for 5/17/10

"New" 2007 post follows below.

The Caretaker is officially on hiatus from his blog until at least the end of this week but most likely through the end of next week. However, he will still have the e-mails from 2007 posted every night at 9 p.m. EST, they will be going out via the automated system. If the Caretaker happens to take some photos and has the time to post them he will do so. For those readers who have relied on the Caretaker's notifications of new posts via Facebook, while he is on hiatus from his blog he will not be sending out notifications via Facebook for the automated posts from 2007. If you'd like, you can sign up for e-mail notifications by entering your e-mail address at left, it is titled: "To receive E-mail notification of new posts:" It is just below the Caretaker's brief profile.

Before there was the blog the Caretaker sent out posts via e-mail, the following is from the Caretaker's second winter on the Island:

Island Ice Report for 3/5/07:

Outside temp: 24 F
Ghetto temp: 60 F
Wind: North, 10 mph, gusting to 20/25
Sky: cloud covered
Precipitation: occasional snow

Not much to report today, very cold air and wind are due in tonight and expected to remain for the next few days so the Caretaker stored up some water and took care of a few other things that are easier to do when it is not so cold and windy. The Caretaker went for a x-c ski over to Huddle Bay, not much to report from over there. Much of the afternoon was spent working on a new painting, and trying to figure out an e-mail problem with Hotmail. Apparently there is a limited number of e-mails one can send out in a 24 hour period and when I was getting caught up from the past three days I exceeded that number. So, that has caused a bit of a delay, it might also delay this e-mail, should that be the case then I may switch to one of my other e-mail addresses, I will be sure to advise you all if that does happen.

Someone asked:
"What are the main duties (day to day) of the Caretaker for the family that owns the house? Are you still there in the summer? Can we see some pictures of the Ghetto? Take care, (get it? "care" taker"? I am so unbelieveably funny)"

Pictures of the Ghetto will be coming soon.
Yes the Caretaker is here in the summer, traditionally the job has always been just a summer job, I was the one who decided to stay year round. Usually the entire house is boarded up for the winter.
During the winter I don't need to be here so technically I don't have any duties. However, in the summer my obligations at the very minimum are to mow the lawn once a week and pick up and drop of the house laundry, above and beyond that I am not really obligated to do anything, but for whatever I do beyond that I keep track of my hours and get paid for the work and possible expenses. Overall I pretty much do some of everything, you name it I probably have done, continually do it, or will do it. Keeping all the boats running is usually an ongoing affair, work on the house both inside and out, work on the property, etc.
