The Caretaker's Concern for 7/17/2010

TCC for 7/17/2010

Sunrise photo from this morning, 7/17/10:

More photos from 5/23/10:

The photo from this morning's sunrise isn't all that spectacular but since it's been a while since the Caretaker has taken any photos he decided he should provide something other than just from the archive. Last night's sunset however was rather spectacular, the Caretaker was out for a swim around the Island, sans bathing suit as is his preferred mode of attire for swimming, immediately upon entering the water and looking up at the sky he noticed that it was looking pretty good but decided rather than get out of the water to go get his camera he would much rather just enjoy the sunset for himself. It was a rather nice experience, the colors in the sky were present during the Caretaker's entire swim, peaking upon his final turn so he could taken in the wonder of it all while doing the backstroke.

The background sky at the horizon was a light green, rising up it faded to a gentle teal, then rising further a deep pastel azure, the final stretch across remaining sky beautiful blue deep and rich. The clouds evenly spaced, streaked from one side to the other, at first a glowing golden yellow, as the sun continued to fade away the colors of the clouds went to a warm orange and then pink, all the while with wisps of grey fingers in shadow rising up from each line of clouds. On his back, kicking just fast enough to stay above water without using his hands, ears just below the surface, accompanied by the deep sound of his breathing, this rich colored sky surrounding the Caretaker, painted the ripples upon the water in a dizzying mix of reds, blues, greens, blacks and chromes. The occasional seagull in silhouette glided across the sunset sky.

Earlier in the day the Caretaker made a dump run, there isn't much to report about, it's the dump, most people take garbage there, a few take garbage away thinking it is of value. Anyway, just after midday the Caretaker drove up to Schroon Lake to catch a performance of "As You Like It" by the Adirondack Shakespeare company, it was a truly great performance, the Caretaker highly suggests that if you are in the area, well, even if you're not, you should make a point to get up to Schroon Lake to see the remaining shows. The dates are as follows:

"As You Like It" July 22 & 30
"Romeo & Juliet" July 18, 23 & 31
"MacBeth" July 25 & 29, August 1

All shows start at 2:00 p.m. at the Boathouse Theatre.

Before there was the blog the Caretaker sent out posts via e-mail, the following is from the Caretaker's second winter on the Island:

Island Ice Report for 3/18/07:

Outside temp: 28 F
Ghetto temp: 65 F
Wind: North, 5 to 10 mph, gusting up to 20/25
Sky: partly cloudy
Precipitation: none.

Not much to report today. Some snow this morning but not much. The Caretaker stayed on the Island, keeping inside. Not much happened on the ice today, a few ice fishermen but they didn't hang around too long, the gusting wind was quite strong at times. No opportunity for any photos so today's photo is from a week or so ago, it's of the Island and the Sun.
