The Caretaker's Concern for 4/9/2010

TCC for 4/9/10:

A bit of Winter has returned to the Lake today. Mild and calm in the morning but come mid day or so the wind picked up and the cold rolled in. Cloudy and overcast all day and the Caretaker was a bit busy so he took no photos, here's a recent photo from the archive and below that is from Winter 2 on the Island:

4/1/10:

Before there was the blog the Caretaker sent out posts via e-mail, the following is from the Caretaker's second winter on the Island:

1/29/2007
Lake has iced over completely.
Sun with a few clouds, wind from the North, light and variable, occasional gusts up to 15 mph.
Outside temp. 16 F, Ghetto temp. 66 F.
Ice has begun to sing, good sign of ice thickening. Probably safe to walk on today, but the better bet would be to wait at least another day.
Caretaker recommends traveling on ice only out of necessity.
I did step out on to the ice about a foot or so from the swimming access point between the boat house and south dock while fetching water, did not fall through.
Expect to be lacing up my ice skates soon, if smooth ice is not to be found in the immediate vicinity of Island, an ice rink will have to be made. Not much hope for a good snow fall in the near future, so ice skating it will have to be.
